Lipomas are common, benign lumps made up of fatty tissue that develop beneath the skin. They are usually soft, mobile, and painless, although some people may notice discomfort or be concerned by their appearance.

If you have any concerns over any lumps or bumps under your skin, make and appointment today at Dr. Sylvia - The Skin GP for a thorough examination. No referral necessary!

Lipomas are common, benign lumps made up of fatty tissue that develop beneath the skin. They typically grow slowly and are most often found on areas such as the arms, shoulders, back, thighs, or trunk.

Lipomas are usually soft, mobile, and painless, although some people may notice discomfort or be concerned by their appearance.

At Dr. Sylvia - The Skin GP, we provide assessment of suspected lipomas to confirm the diagnosis and exclude other causes of skin lumps.

This includes clinical examination and advice on whether monitoring, further investigation, or treatment is appropriate. Most lipomas do not require removal; however, where a lump is increasing in size, causing discomfort, restricting movement, or where the diagnosis is uncertain, further investigation or surgical removal may be considered.

Suitable lipomas can be managed in our clinic, while lesions that are atypical, deep, rapidly growing, or associated with concerning features are referred to an appropriate consultant specialist for further assessment.

Dr. Sylvia continues to support patients before and after referral, where appropriate, as part of ongoing care in primary care.
