Rosacea is a chronic skin condition, for which there is no cure, but can be managed very effectively with appropriate medical treatment. Contact us at Dr. Sylvia - The Skin GP for help.
Rosacea or Acne Rosacea is characterised by facial flushing, usually spread across the cheeks and nose. Stinging of the skin and some dryness are also common symptoms. Sometimes with visible blood vessels on the cheeks and what most people recognise as acne spots or pustules. The skin on the face/nose can thicken over time especially without treatment.
Acne Rosacea is a more common complaint in women, and those with lighter skin, but can present more severely in males. The exact cause of Rosacea is unknown with some thoughts that a mite in the skin causes the irritation. It is also largely suspected that rosacea is a hereditary condition.
It is a painful condition and there is no quick fix. However, diagnosis and treatment in our clinic, along with a few lifestyle changes, and rosacea can be well managed. We can prescribe from a range of topical products and anti-biotics depending on your personal requirements.
Although we don't know the exact cause for Rosacea here are a few triggers that may help you avoid flare ups:
Using gentle skin cleansers with hyaluronic acid and ceramides, washing your face with lukewarm water, and applying a facial moisturiser with SPF 50 daily can provide added relief and protection for your skin.
