Within primary care, many pre-cancerous skin changes and selected low-risk non-melanoma skin cancers can be safely assessed and managed in the community, without the need for hospital attendance.
At Dr. Sylvia - The Skin GP, Dr Sylvia provides assessment and surgical management of pre-cancerous skin lesions and selected low-risk non-melanoma skin cancers, most commonly basal cell carcinomas (BCCs).
Assessment includes careful clinical examination and the use of dermatoscopy (skin microscopy) to evaluate skin lesions in greater detail and to help identify features that may require biopsy, treatment, or specialist referral.
Where appropriate, skin cancer surgery is performed under local anaesthetic in the community setting and may include diagnostic biopsy, complete surgical excision, or cryosurgery for suitable pre-cancerous lesions, in line with clinical guidelines.
Dr. Sylvia does not provide treatment for melanoma or high-risk skin cancers. Lesions that are complex, aggressive, recurrent, or otherwise unsuitable for community-based management are referred to an appropriate consultant dermatologist, plastic surgeon, or other specialist service in line with national guidelines.
Ongoing support is provided before and after referral, where appropriate, as part of continuing care in primary care.
