Lumps and Bumps

Lumps and Bumps (Skin Lesions) are very common and usually nothing to worry about. At The Skin GP we provide assessment of lumps and bumps without any prior referrals, and treat using skin surgery under local anaesthetic if appropriate.

Lumps and bumps on the skin are very common and are usually benign (non-cancerous). They can include cysts, lipomas (fatty lumps), skin tags, warts and verrucas, moles, and seborrhoeic keratoses (waxy, “stuck-on” growths). Many develop slowly and cause no harm, but some can become uncomfortable, infected, irritated by clothing, or simply worrying—particularly if they are new or changing.

At Dr. Sylvia - The Skin GP we provide assessment of lumps and bumps. Review focuses on confirming the likely diagnosis, checking for any warning signs, and advising whether the safest approach is monitoring or treatment. Often, careful clinical examination is enough to reassure you. In some cases, a biopsy may be recommended to confirm the diagnosis or exclude more concerning causes.

Where treatment is needed, we can safely manage many common skin lesions in the community setting, including minor procedures under local anaesthetic when appropriate. This includes treatment of benign lesions that are repeatedly catching, bleeding, painful, inflamed, or causing cosmetic concern. Any lesion that is suspicious for skin cancer or requires specialist input will be referred promptly for consultant dermatology or plastic surgery assessment, in line with best practice.
