With more than 22 years of experience, Dr. Sylvia McKenna is a compassionate Irish General Practitioner who enjoys supporting her patients and improving their quality of life.

Dr. Sylvia has immersed herself in learning all things skincare. She is now a GP with a specialist Interest in skin cancer, skin surgery and advanced acne care.

Dr. Sylvia has been a partner in a GP practice for 20 years, caring for all of her patients across many aspects of healthcare and is a much-loved part of her community. She is truly passionate about improving the quality of healthcare provided to the patients of her practice in the northeast of Ireland.

She founded Dr. Sylvia - The Skin GP to bridge the gap between GP and hospital specialist. Her clinic brings advanced skin diagnostics and treatments directly to the local community, providing expert care right on her patients' doorsteps.

Care is tailored to the individual, with a strong focus on accurate diagnosis, effective treatment, and long-term skin health. Where a skin condition is severe, complex, or requires specialist investigation or treatment, patients are referred to an appropriate consultant specialist in line with national guidelines

Dr. Sylvia is continuously upskilling by regularly volunteering in a hospital dermatology clinic, alongside a consultant dermatologist in Dublin. This keeps her practice as The Skin GP up-to-date with the latest advancements in dermatology and skin cancer care. She has invested many years in developing her expertise in dermatology and skin cancer medicine.

Do I need a referral to attend Dr. Sylvia - The Skin GP?

No referral is required. You can book directly for medical skin assessments, skin surgery consultations, or aesthetic skin care appointments.

Do you treat all types of acne?

Treatment may include topical therapies, oral medications, and in selected cases isotretinoin (Roaccutane), where appropriate. Treatment plans are evidence-based and discussed in detail during consultation.

Can rosacea be treated?

While rosacea cannot be cured, symptoms can often be well controlled. Dr Sylvia provides diagnosis, education, and treatment plans tailored to symptom pattern and severity.

Do you treat eczema and psoriasis?

Dr. Sylvia - The Skin GP assesses and treats mild to moderate eczema and psoriasis, focusing on diagnosis, education, topical treatments, and ongoing management.

What types of skin surgery do you perform?

Dr. Sylvia - The Skin GP provides community-based skin surgery including:
• Biopsies (including punch biopsy)
• Surgical excision of suitable lesions
• Curettage and cautery
• Cryosurgery
• Ingrown toenail surgery
• Removal of benign lesions such as cysts, lipomas, skin tags, and warts
• Selected low-risk non-melanoma skin cancers (mainly basal cell carcinomas)

Dr. Sylvia - The Skin GP works with VHI, Laya Healthcare, and Irish Life Health. Some procedures may be partially reimbursed depending on individual policy cover.
